Cats - Manx

Manx cats originated on the Isle of Man, an island in the Irish Sea, halfway between England and Ireland. (Manx meaning "from the Isle of Man." They have survived on the Island for 300 years.

Manx cats have either no tail, or a short tail. The lack of tail does not affect their balance and they climb, and jump as well as any cat.

Breeders have bred Manx cats to long-tailed cats, and bred the offspring back to tail-less cats. Thus the gene pool is strengthened, and a wide variety of colour & coat length occurs. The coat is dense with two layers - undercoat and top coat. The most rare colour is white.

Folklore says that Noah shut the door of the ship just as the Manx cat came aboard, thus cutting off his tail. The manx cat had been playing. A warning to us to heed God's call! Genesis 6
