The saluki is an ancient breed, known to have been in existence since 329 BC.
Arabs used salukis for hunting gazelle. They are fast, with great stamina for the chase.
Salukis are tall, with a dignified, graceful appearance.
The coat coat is soft and silky. It can be feathered or smooth. Brushing helps to keep the dog looking neat.
A puppy socialisation class, followed by a training class, is recommended for this willful, headstrong breed!
Salukis are good-natured with children and other dogs, but may be shy of people they do not know.
A dog-proof fence is necessary, as a hound is an animal that chases other animals, and your dog may disappear and go off hunting on his own!
Height: males 58 - 71 cms at shoulder, females a little smaller.
Colour: Salukis come in many colours! White, cream, fawn, golden, red, grizzle, tan, black and tan, or tricoloured.
