SPAYING OR NEUTERING YOUR PET

The neutering (castration) of a male dog will not change his personality. Your dog will not suffer any kind of identity crisis or emotional reaction when neutered. An animal’s personality is formed more by genetics and environment than by sex hormones.

Neutering eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate disease.

Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer.

Spaying and neutering helps pets live longer, healthier lives.

Folk usually say spay if it's a female, & neuter if it's a male, but spay is technically correct for either male or female as well. It comes from the Latin Spathe or old French/middle English "espeer" which means to cut with a sword or blade. Sterilisation is another word for the process.

Sometimes dogs get out in the streets and mate without our knowledge. The world is becoming overpopulated with dogs. The SPCA & other shelters worldwide have to kill off millions of dogs & cats every year. There are not enough homes for them all.

We can breed pedigreed dogs & sell them no problem, but folk emigrate, or move to townhouses, or retirement villages, and are no longer able to keep pets.

Some macho dog owners swagger about bragging about their dogs' reproductive abilities. But if male dogs have their testicles removed, are they any less good than dogs who are intact? If a female is sterile, is she 2nd class? The Bible talks about "eunuchs" (folk who  can't have children). God says in Isaiah chapter 56, verse 3, "Let not any eunuch complain, 'I am only a dry tree.' Eunuchs who choose what pleases me...to them I will give a memorial & a name better than sons...I will give them an everlasting name."
