The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large, gentle breed
known for its striking appearance and calm demeanor. We love to take part in
KUSA championship shows and most of our dogs have their Champion status.

Here are some key points about the breed:
1. **Appearance**: Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, with a strong, sturdy build.
They have a thick, double coat that is predominantly black with white markings
and rust-colored accents. Their coat is long and requires regular grooming.
2. **Temperament**: They are known for their friendly and affectionate nature.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are typically good with children and can be very gentle
and loyal. They are also known for their calm demeanor and can be quite patient.
3. **Exercise Needs**: While they enjoy regular walks and playtime, they are
generally less energetic than some other large breeds. They appreciate moderate
exercise but are not as high-energy as breeds like the Border Collie.
4. **Trainability**: Bernese Mountain Dogs are intelligent and eager to please,
making them relatively easy to train. However, they can be somewhat stubborn, so
consistent and positive reinforcement training works best.
5. **Health**: The breed is prone to certain health issues, such as hip and
elbow dysplasia, certain types of cancer, and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
Their lifespan is generally around 7-10 years, which is shorter compared to some
other breeds. Regular veterinary care and a healthy diet are important for
managing these risks.
6. **Living Conditions**: They are suited to living in homes with ample space,
and they do well in colder climates due to their thick coat. In warmer climates,
they need to be kept cool and hydrated.
Bernese Mountain Dogs make excellent family pets
and are known for their gentle and affectionate nature. They thrive in
environments where they receive plenty of love and attention.
