Caucasian Shepherd Dog
This breed originates in Russia. They were originally protectors of sheep and other livestock. They protected them from wolves, bears and jackals. It is a giant breed and needs to be trained. They will protect their family, especially the person feeding them. They have been used in prisons in Russia. They are friendly and playful with their own family but can be trained to attack burglars. They have thick long coats, suited to the cold Caucasian Mountains. Shade needs to be provided, or water, for cooling down in hot weather. They look like big, shaggy lions! Height: 58 to 76 cms They are extremely scarce in South Africa. Some dogs will lay down their lives for the sheep they protect. Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." And he went willingly to his death to save mankind from Hell. John 10, 11
