Kayanini KennelBreeder ofToy Fox Terriers The FIRST EVER Toy Fox Terriers in South Africa!
I have one who "knocks" on the door.. it sounds just like a human knocking. We
thought it was hilarious and opened the door for her. Well, long story short -
now we are her slaves to get up and open doors for her - or she keeps on
knocking.
In 1964, as a little girl, our family got a tiny Miniature Fox Terrier called
Blikkies, named this, because my dad said the pup was small enough to fit in a
can. 10 years later i saved my waitressing money and bought my own Mini Foxie,
and after her, 4 others over the years. It was always easy to find one, until
1996, when my last one got older, and i realised the local SA miniature Fox
Terriers became extinct. I did research of all the small breed Fox Terriers over the world, and when I found the registered AKC & UKC Toy Fox Terriers, i was hooked! Love at first sight! I saved and made contact with top USA breeders and judges. It was VERY difficult to get an American breeder who was willing to export to SA. It took some years! Add to it the fact that I wanted clear health-tested champion lines - that made it more difficult. The first TFT arrived in 2017, and the first litter in SA was born on 1 April 2017, sired by a Canadian stud. Over time I saved and imported 5, and a co-breeder another 4.
All my dogs are clear health tested for any disease that can be in TFTs. All are registered at KUSA. I proudly show my dogs in KUSA shows, and most of them are champion titled. I do not breed often, each litter is carefully planned to bring out the best temperament. Pups are sold with a spay/neuter contract. Because I imported the first ones, i feel responsible to make sure they will not be cross-bred with other breeds, or inbred. The gene-pool in SA is too small for other breeders to breed with my stock. I am always willing to help with advice if another breeder wants to import TFTs.
The 3 tongue-in-cheek facts about them in USA:
